چکیده

High-level parameters offer user an easy and intuitive tool to modify an existing model. In this paper, an approach of deforming freeform shapes using intrinsic parameters is proposed, where those parameters were not part of the model. Instead the parameters are introduced by user at the time he/she needs them. To achieve this, different from existing freeform deformation methods, a deformable template defined by intrinsic parameters is used as the bridge to link the original freeform shape and the user actions. Those templates can be defined by the user or simply derived from freeform feature concepts. With shape similarity analysis, a user-defined region of interest in the freeform shape is matched, or fitted, to a deformable shape template. By several different kinds of 3 to 3 functions, the region of interest is mapped to the fitted deformable shape template. Thus template parameters can be transferred to the original freeform shape. Through those quantitative intrinsic parameters, the user can easily modify the freeform shape. Several simple implementations were conducted in order to verify the proposed method. It is also described how the proposed technique can be applied in practical shape modelling applications. Dirichlet Free-Form Deformations and their Application to Hand Simulation

We present a generalized method for free-form deformations that combines the traditional freeform deformation model with techniques of scattered data interpolation based on Delaunay and Dirichlet/Voronoi diagrams. This technique offers many advantages over traditional FFDs, including simple control of local deformations. It also keeps all the capabilities of FFD extensions, such as extended fre...

Constrained Multiresolution Geometric Modelling

Freeform curves, surface and solids are generally represented in B-spline basis. Various geometric quantities, such as control points, knots and weights have to be specified. Controlling the shape of an object under complex deformations by manipulating the control points directly is often difficult. The movement of control points gives an indication of the resulting deformation, but being extra...

Automatic Line Handles for Freeform Deformation

Interactive freeform surface deformation methods allow to explore the space of possible shapes using simple control structures. While recent advances in variational editing provide high quality deformations, designing control structures remains a time-consuming manual process. We propose a new automatic control structure generation based on the observation that the most salient visual structure...

Sweep-based Freeform Deformations

We propose a sweep-based approach to the freeform deformation of three-dimensional objects. Instead of using a volume enclosing the whole object, we approximate only its deformable parts using sweep surfaces. The vertices on the object boundary are bound to the sweep surfaces and follow their deformation. Several sweep surfaces can be organized into a hierarchy so that they interact with each o...
